Motion

We studied typography in motion to try and understand how they affect eachother. The thesis was originially that our world is in a constant change of movement, transformation and change - but most of our designs are visualized in a very static and strict design environments. The process today offer efficiency and precision – but what about real world performance?

When studying typography in motion through a functional point of view, I quickly realized that typography loses much of its functionality concerningly quickly.

Immediately there were insights to be gathered, and we realize that there are things that you can do in order to improve legibility of typography in motion. For instance, the relationship with high horizontal speed, character kerning and vertical stem width appeared very constant.

Processing Script
/ Interactive Motion Simulation

The simulation set the motion direction and speed with data from the cursor and seamlessly adapt a simplified motion blur to show how we studied typography in motion.
